**Without Everton FC, Liverpool FC would not exist.
John Houlding founded Liverpool FC in 1892 after a row with his fellow Everton directors who left Anfield for Goodison.
The Sandon Hotel was owned by Houlding and became the changing room for the players up until the split.
The oldest item in the stadium is the official club flagpole situated at the corner of the Kop & Walton Breck Road. This comes from one of the first iron ships called the Great Estern, launched in 1860.
In 1987 a major incident was averted when workmen found a collapsed sewer, which meant The Kop was closed off for a few games at the start of the 1987-88 season.
The Hillsborough Eternal Flame Memorial was unveiled in Anfield Road in memory of the 96 fans that lost their lives at Hillsborough.
The Shankly Gates were erected to legendary Liverpool boss Bill Shankly's memory a year after his death in October 1981. They have the club anthem "You'll Never Walk Alone' inscribed above.
The shield on the Paisley gates is the coat of arms of Country Durham**
